If you don't need the "intelligence" of a schematic or a netlist of that cabinet, I would suggest using a 2D drawing editor and making a connection drawing (aka "Interconnect Diagram") of it rather than a schematic. I use QCAD for such drawings. That said, might I suggest getting a copy of USA Standard USAS Y32.16 "Reference Designations for Electrical and Electronic Parts and Equipments". It may give you some ideas or even answer your questions. There is also USAS Y32.2 "Graphic Symbols for Electrical and Electronics Diagrams" for example standard symbols. Then, if you _really_ want some heavy reading material, there is always DOC-STD-00100 (Mil-D-100/MIL-D-1000) "Engineering Drawing Practices", which has some example drawings of cabling and wiring, and MIL-STD-454, "Standard General Requirements for Electronic Equipment" (which mostly contains references to other standards documents). Although these documents are somewhat dated, they can still be useful. HTH. Nicklas,

Do you really need a schematic of that cabinet or just a drawing of how it is wired?

Then, if you really want some heavy reading material, there is always DOC-STD-00100 (Mil-D-100/MIL-D-1000) "Engineering Drawing Practices", which has some example drawings of cabling and wiring, and MIL-STD-454, "Standard General Requirements for Electronic Equipment" (which mostly contains references to other standards documents).

Although these documents are somewhat dated, they can still be useful.

HTH.

I have drawn schematics for circuit boards but are a beginner then it come to electronic control cabinets:
  1. I have discovered connections are usually marked with a number so number for net name seems like an obvious choice.
  2. There are cables and a bus seems like the obvious choice for cables, have not seens any numbers on these.
  3. As there usually are numbers on cable strands it would feel lik a good idea to enter this number in schematic, do anybody have a suggestion for suitable name?

Do anybody have any tutorial about how to make schematics for electrical cabinets?
