I used ti's power bench to come up with a 3V to a fixed 12V converter but
it uses 15 components and is not reliable.

Then I see these small ready made converter boards providing up to 2amps
and costs around $1.50 from china.  They use what looks like a 6 pin sot23
voltage regulator with a handful of components.

I've searched far and wide with nothing like what they seem to use.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for voltage regulator with minimal
components?
