They call it smart links.

Take attached file,
press "move" buttom (left, below mid in main window) in xfig

at the boottom there is buttons, four of them in move mode, the 
rightmost one is labelled "Smart Links"

press it and choose e.g. slide
select and move one of the boxes to see how it works
