It matters less about what you call it than who you work on it with, but having no separate names for different groups' efforts is confusing enough to alienate. Most ordinary circuit makers and microcontroller hackers seem to like forums with several splinter discussions to limit it to a narrow interest. Micropython uses forums like that, and KiCAD also. That kind of setup would attract more users that don't want to code on the tools, just use them, (and test them...). I do not think a name change will lose many users -- whichever developer group with enough activity for bug fixing will attract almost all of the core users of geda-gaf.
