People are letting their ideas compete . The competition is rigged in favor of the main branch and in the process the user view of gEDA gets trashed. First movers are relegated to private forks/branches when in fact they are the ones most likely to have the motivation to pull off significant new features. > While this goes against knee-jerk new-age feel-good (and apparently highly > hyphenated) logic, I respectfully submit that this is not always a good > thing. Indeed. I know I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating in the present context: the root of many of geda's problems is the lack of any kind of aggressive integration branch. The ultra-slow integration makes arguments over how to proceed much worse, because there's plenty of time for similar but incompatible approaches to develop. Igor might never have forked. xorn likely wouldn't be having it's current collision with much more recent efforts, Milan and I wouldn't have unknowingly duplicated effort on file formats, etc. I know Marcus wasn't popular, but he was absolutely right: you can always revert things if everyone hates them or they cause breakage and the author is AWOL. Yes it's a pain the ass but as we can see it's better than the alternative. Britton
