The patch that's sitting in launchpad allows defaulting the sidebars to hidden, but it's not been merged. Doesn't keep them disabled though, editing an existing bit of text causes the sidebar to be turned back on. If it were to auto-close after you were done it wouldn't be as much of a problem. I'm not particularly interested in flame-wars, but I'm left wondering if those have discouraged the developer and caused him to give up part way through? That's his choice of course, but I end up asking if it's worth keeping something that feels half finished and may never progress any further?
