Yes simple it must be. For example for a resistor (value, footprint) pair you want it to remember manfacturer part number or distributor order number.

It should fit attributes defined in symbol against database. There would be a need to ignore some attributes. In case of more than one fit either a list or any together with a warning would be appropiate.
