It is also useful very useful to copy and move copper traces. If you for example design a power supply and want to move it a little bit. If there where "sub layout" selector available as is for layers today then designing power supply then there would be possibility to reference all objects in it later. Probably similar to this, right click on sub layout and click on select. Once objects are selected mover or copy is simple.

Implementation should be rather straightforward if there is possibility to add attribute to all objects which sublayout they belong to. It would probably also be useful with coordinate for sub layout and refdes rename for update of copies. Sub layout is more or less just a selection mechanism.
