The Motif/lesstif toolkit is still supported, and has been stable for
decades.  Despite how it "feels" to you, it's the closest we have to
meeting the `lifetime of "forever"' criteria.  Compare to GTK where
a two-year-old ABI is considered obsolete.

Printing is the main reason we use cairo, I think.
