You _can_ help fixing bugs. Being a mere user is entirely sufficient.

For example, there are currently 99 bugs in the gEDA/pcb tracker which
are "new" and importance "undecided". This combination means: so far
nobody looked at them. It'd help if you started looking at them, try to
reproduce the issue and see wether the bug is still present. Some of
these bugs are older than 5 years, so it's likely you find quite a
number of already solved ones.

Regarding compilation on Windows: gEDA means to support Windows, so
failure to compile there is a bug. Solving bugs requires some patience
and reports as precise as possible: what exactly did you do, what
happened, what was the exact error message. When some small thing got
fixed, start over.

Not sure wether this long URL makes it trough the list, it's an advanced
search with status New and importance unknown or undecided.
