I get 76 r/s for lesstif and 48 r/s for gtk, but my machine is:

i7-4790K 4GHz
32G RAM (don't recall the type)
raid-1 storage plus a boot SSD
GPU: GTX 980

So you could in theory double your performance by buying the
latest-greatest hardware, but it's not an order of magnitude (base 10
:) better than what you have.
