If so, footprint can be (re)implemented as a simple group. Footprints could be groups with a footprint attribute. That would allow all the special features wanted for buried vias in PCB. May not be easy though. For gschem, groups that are instantiated multiple times would need netlist module attributes also, so it gets complicated. Simply having a group for purpose of neatly rearranging a design is a good goal.
