And the biggest reason we can’t do that is that a gnetlist back end can’t get *any* information about busses. Not their topology, not their attributes. All of the information is in the names of the nets: the bus graphic has no significance.

The netlister needs full access to all details of the design. It’s great that gnetlist gives the back end some extremely useful views into this information, but it is a serious limitation that many details are inaccessible. Changing the file format won’t fix this.
