If you work at a company that uses OrCAD, then you must be one step ahead of me, as you (presumably) have access to a working installation of OrCAD. For me that part is quite difficult as I don't run M$ Windows. If it takes no more than 5 minutes, might it perhaps be possible for you to open that DSN file I'm dealing with (link below) in your OrCAD setup and export the BOM information? When I run strings on the binary file, I see what looks like a lot of useful information: names of PCB footprints, orderable part numbers etc - information that does not appear in any of the PDF schematics I found for this >10 y old reference board. (I'm guessing this info is OrCAD's equivalent of gschem's invisible attributes - they are there, but not shown on PDF prints.)
