SP200 units now.. MX500 is great for driving the SMD tweezers, through-hold desoldering gun etc.., and does come in finer tip sizes for SMD soldering than the SP200. It is bigger, less portable and more expensive - so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a new purchase. (Look at some of the cheaper, newer OKI stuff instead?) I use the SP200 for everyday work, and really love these irons. I have bought 3x now from eBay. One was a little ropey, which my brother now has and uses after he bought it a replacement hand piece. The other two live at various places I'm working (and/or in my car.) I'm so impressed by the MX500 / SP200 units from Metcal, I pretty much refuse to use anything else I'm given, and bring my own units. Best wishes, -- Peter Clifton Clifton Electronics
