Ok, there is room for improvement :-) From work flow perspective, a 3D representation of the board asgiven in the outline layer is more import than population with components. > The height of the parts is not generated from footprints, pcb has no > knowledge of that, pcb doesn't even know the board thickness. > You have to specify board thickness in the exporter pop-up dialog > window, the dialog gives a default value (in mil/100 or mm) which > can be altered. My comment: :-)) > The parts on the pcb themselves are to be created by the user (IMHO > content is the user's responsibility, I'd say, the default install should at least contain a reasonable library of models to get a newbie started. Models should be high quality, so they can serve as a pattern for more. Of course, the same reasoning applies to footprints and symbols. IMHO, the rather large default library is a strong selling point in favor of eagle. Unfortunately, geda is not particularily strong at this aspect. The default set of geda symbols is (intentionly) not ready for use. Shameless plug: I am still working on a library of symbols and footprints that complies with the above requirements -- the "essential" library. If the openscad exporter turns out to be usable, I will add 3D models to the essential footprints. ---<)kaimartin(>--- -- Kai-Martin Knaak
