It looks like we all compile from source.  I prefer compiling from 
source to make sure there are no dependency or library interface problems.
Last night, I looked up the libraries required for gEDA and discovered 
all of the libraries needed for gEDA 1.6.2 are included with Slack 
14.0.  So, it should be a snap.  Unless a library is too new, which I 
have encountered with other packages in the past.  Then, it takes a bit 
of extra work to find a combination that will work together.
