(Any)one can still create a geda-symbols account on github.com with the official symbols and footprints ("geda" is in use by David Gerber from Switzerland). Let every (potential) user create an account (free as in beer) and fork, clone and/or cherry-pick as he/she sees fit and leave the maintenance burden of user accounts and permissions with Github. The geda-symbols repo can have trusted collaborators who can cherry-pick useful stuff from forks and known clones. This may be a first step to release the "content" burden from the official git devs and repositories. Just my EUR 0.02 Kind regards, Bert Timmerman.
