Sounds like you're the man! A while back on this forum, I asked if there was an API document that explains the libgeda functions and their inputs (arguments) and output(s). At that time, the short answer I received was no. I asked because I was going to dig into gsymcheck in order to make some changes and I needed that API information to understand gsymcheck. My alternative was to go through the libgeda source and create such a document myself. However, I got diverted to other things and haven't gotten back to that project - yet. But I am still interested in it. If you are going to dig into the code to understand it, you may consider creating such an API document along the way. Hint, hint.
