Excellent idea, IMHO. > If you want to add to the main wiki, I'm open to volunteers. One experience from another project - RepRap 3D printers - is, people are extremely shy these days. I think it's to some extent because a few years ago experienced users didn't hesitate to blast out a "you fool!" when a newbie did something not entirely accurate. That strikes back these days, press stories here and there about people taken to court for internet postings do the rest. Would it be manageable you enable these account anonymously? I mean, likely you get notified on account creation anyways, so you could easily enable the account without being asked. Or you could set up a template to ask from your side, lowering the entry barrier. Yes, spamming happens. But spamming humans are extremely rare and spamming robots usually know how to spam Wikimedia-based wikis, only. This other project does have a Wikimedia based wiki and receives some 30 spammer accounts daily, but only some 5 spamming entries, as putting in links to external sites requires solving a captcha. Dealing with this requires some 10 minutes a day. It's a high volume wiki, receiving some 100 valid edits each day. > I really want gEDA to be a community-driven "bazaar" format project. > That means people need to step up and take over parts ... Please don't get me wrong, I think such an expectation is the end of the story for these shy people already. Taking responsibilities is simply a no-go, even for not-so-shy people, as we all have sufficient other duties these days. For me, every committment is welcome, being it a one-off or being it lasting for years. In this place I want to make sure I'm not pointing a finger to anyone. Not to gEDA users and even less to gEDA maintainers. I just try to find the hurdles, as I'm pretty sure a few tweaks here and there can get the ball rolling again. Seeing a few bits of own work in a worldwidely distributed application suite is quite a satisfaction, after all. Markus - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dipl. Ing.
