IMHO: If gEDA is an Open Source program, it shouldn't be requiring any 
proprietary fonts, especially on Open Source *nix machines.  To require 
proprietary fonts is contamination on these machines.  I vote for your 
idea to allow the user to select what font to use through configuration.
