Back when I was using a proprietary EDA, I used the blink method (implemented with alt-tab) to diff my pcbs. A few thoughts: * I agree with Larry's idea to merge this with pcbdiff, using command-line switches to control it * Since you aren't false-coloring the image, you can eliminate the colorspace conversion step * On my system (Ubuntu 11.04), display does not honor the DELAY setting. That seems to be an imagemagick problem, because firefox displays the gif correctly.
