Obviously I have too much time (I don't) and tried myself with these instructions: http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html/fixing-a-bug.html Even if some parts of them are obsolete, these instructions work reasonably well. So don't fear to bring in a patch yourself :-) If bzr builddep doesn't work as expected because your system lacks some packages, simply drop that part.
