The “real” URL shows in your status bar when you hover over the link, but this is an illusion. You can see the Google-ized “man-in-the-middle” URL by right-clicking and copying the link (and pasting into a text editor). I've found that my browser spends significant time waiting for a connection to google.com to respond when I click on search result links, before I the target page loads. Also, if you turn off JavaScript it will work in the “right” way. But it's really impossible to use the web these days with JavaScript disabled, unfortunately. You can look at the source for a Google search result. Use Firefox's View Selection Source. For instance, Programmer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia You'll see that there is a real but there is also an onMouseDown JavaScript event handler that hijacks the click and invokes some special “link-rewriting” code.
