In the past, I manually typed in footprints names in gschem for symbols missing that. I can imagine that a footprint-selector (file-browser) which scans the footprints paths may make life easier. (Some people may wish a graphical preview of footprints in gschem -- personally I do not need that) PCB can copy the paths from schematic when the initial PCB boards is generated -- so there should be no unfound footprints any more. Of course, this is only a small improvement, but it is easy. Much easier than using powerful databases.
