Tried = to invoke gschem again.  Would not work at all.  Got this:

** (process:39821): CRITICAL (recursed) **: = murrine_style_draw_box_gap: assertion 'height >=3D -1=E2=80=99 fai= led Aborted (core dumped)

Saved a copy of .config/gEDA/geda-user.conf. Deleted old = .config/gEDA/geda-user.conf.

Restarted gschem and = Bingo!  Its working just fine again.  Everything seems as it = was before.
Sorry I was not able to determine what = window was the cause of the problem.
Working fine = for now.  If I can still help, let me know.  If I see anything = funny, I=E2=80=99ll let you know.

Thank you SO much. Got to get a project = shipped out next week.  I was really beginning to sweat!

Take care and thanks = again,

This could well = have resized some element below its bugging threshold.

Not sure what = you are asking.  But the tabs =E2=80=9CLibrary, Object,Text, = Attributes=E2=80=9D have a very long delay once clicked (>1 minute) = and choosing any of them seems to make no difference in behavior I=E2=80=99= m seeing.

The windows are all = part of the UI tree as long as they are docked.  Could you close = the windows one by one and see if/when the buggy behavior ceases?

I=E2=80=99m= wondering if gschem has cached some data about the present UI = parameters that a reinstall would not touch. Just an uninformed guess. = Can=E2=80=99t seem to find any dot files that would hold this data, but = they could be hiding somewhere I haven=E2=80=99t looked in.

It has. :(  The UI geometry = is stored in .config/gEDA/geda-user.conf.
