I just start with an existing part and modify it. As for Libraries, I stopped using them in expresspcb. In gEDA, I am creating my own custom libs for both .sym and .fb items. Since I'm new to this gEDA stuff, I think I will store all my .SYM and .FB items in the cloud at http://kitsandparts.com/geda for others to use as they wish.
