On your main Linux box, just set up VirtualBox and voila --- instant source of machines as disposable as they get! You assign the downloaded ISO file as the Live CD device and it boots right away. You can re-use existing disk images if you don't need them for the previous virtual machine that you tried, etc. etc. On the topic at hand --- though Sid is unstable, it does after all have newer versions of things, so maybe some glitches in the tool chain disappeared in the transition from Wheezy to the current testing/unstable version.
