If you're using Vista, it's probably something unsupported. Heck, DOS is really unsupported on Vista, and Allegro no longer supports DOS (e.g. latest 4.4.0) except in older versions (e.g. 4.2.2). In short, try again under DOSBox, and tell me if it sounds correctly. If not even there, you'll have to switch to the Win32 version of Allegro (probably true anyways, sadly, as I would heavily disagree that "DJGPP apps work great" on Vista.) P.S. Technically, Vista (and XP) do support SB 2.0 emulation (unlike 2k). But don't get your hopes too high.
