Read the Readme.1st again. You'll notice that the instructions about modifying autoexec.bat are not meant for XP. There, the canonical way is to modify the environment via the ControlPanel->System->Extended->Environment dialog, or by running a 'setdjgppvars.bat' batch file with the two SET commands in it, as part of the initialization of a command window.
