I'd like to announce release 2 of the DJGPP port of libtool 1.4.3. libtool is "a generic library support script. Libtool hides the complexity of using shared libraries behind a consistent, portable interface." (The description was taken from libtool's README file.) Note that DJGPP does not support dynamic linking. Consequently this package will not be very useful to people writing DJGPP-only programs. It may be useful to people who are trying to make a DJGPP program cross-platform, starting from the DJGPP environment rather than, say, a Linux environment. Binary (libt143b.zip, includes info documentation), other-formats documentation (libt143d.zip) and source (libt143s.zip) packages are available from Simtel.NET and its mirrors: http://www.simtel.net/gnudlpage.php?product=/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/libt143b.zip&name=libt143b.zip http://www.simtel.net/gnudlpage.php?product=/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/libt143d.zip&name=libt143d.zip http://www.simtel.net/gnudlpage.php?product=/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/libt143s.zip&name=libt143s.zip If you wish to use libtool in your devlopment environment, please download the binary distribution. If you wish to view the documentation in DVI, HTML or PostScript formats, please download the documentation distribution. If you wish to examine or rebuild libtool from its sources, please download the source distribution. Please read the DJGPP-specific readme file after installation: gnu\libtool1.43\djgpp\readme.dos off the DJGPP directory. You can also read it here: http://www.phekda.freeserve.co.uk/richdawe/djgpp/libtool/1.4.3/readme.dos There may be problems using libtool 1.4.3 with autoconf later than 2.13 (e.g.: autoconf 2.50). I have no specific examples, but I have been told that libtool 1.4.3 uses variables that were internal to autoconf < 2.50, but no longer exist. If you see problems that could be due to this, please let me know. I hope to release a port based on libtool CVS on sometime, which will work with autoconf >= 2.50. (Thanks to Tim van Holder for this information.) If you encounter any problems with this port, please feel free to contact me by e-mail (address below). I also try to read the DJGPP newsgroup, comp.os.msdos.djgpp, on a regular basis. Regards, -- Richard Dawe [ http://www.phekda.freeserve.co.uk/richdawe/ ]
