BTW, gccw32 -v reports :

D:\djgpp\prog\winAPI>gccw32 -v
Reading specs from d:/djgpp/rsxntdj/lib/specs
gcc driver version 2.95.2 19991024 (release) executing gcc version 2.8.1

I've checked out the source file for gccw32 and all it does is call gcc.
Not quite sure what it means by "executing gcc version 2.8.1"

But surely something as simple as the problem I've got isn't caused by an
early verison of gcc ..
