See above. But I remember Bjarne Stroustrup stating in his book "The C++ Programming Language" that C has been retained as a subset of C++ (that has been one of the design goals of C++). "Except for minor details, C++ is a superset of the C programming language." [Check out the "Preface to the First Edition" of the above mentioned book. ] Maybe the "Historical Note" section of the first chapter of the above said book would throw more light.
