DSM files are DJGPP Software Manifests, which are used to describe DJGPP
packages. This is so that package managers know how to install, uninstall and
upgrade DJGPP packages. zippo is the most developed DSM-based package manager
for DJGPP. See:

There is a program called KITE under development that will have a nice user
interface for managing packages. KITE is available from the zippo CVS
repository (see the zippo page above).
