At the time I was finishing the port, Miguel de Icaza was moving into the Gnome version and had little interest in the text branch, so it probably does not lag the Linux text version by too much. As noted on the webpage, if you are just looking for the functionality, there are several native DOS/Windows versions that either are much smaller/faster, or have implemented a seamless network interface like WindowsCommander. I don't know what page references it, but it would be well to update the link to the tripod page. My ISP got touchy about harddrive space, and the 3 megs or so of MC had to go.
