Well, I can understand that point of view. However, an option that defaulted to the current behavior but could be specified to override that behavior wouldn't necessarily be a "bad thing", would it? Especially if it only overrode the behavior when "long names" were in effect, so that the "short name" conflicts would not be an issue?
