A2ps ('any to postscript') is a general postscript generator. It can pretty-print files, print
headers with useful information (e.g. date, file name), number lines, etc. It can also
'delegate', i.e. use e.g LaTeX to print latex files.
A2Ps requires the file(1) package, which determines the file type of a given file. It also uses
the PsUtils. Both are
