The crash is not in Allegro or DJGPP (which are free software), but in NTVDM (which is closed and proprietary to a company that has a vested interest in killing DOS in favor of Windows CE or Embedded Win2K). I'd suggest: o dual booting to DOS or Windows 9x; you can get DOS at www.drdos.org o using the MinGW version of Allegro instead to make DirectX apps http://www.mingw.org/ o buying a used PC and running DOS on it (it's cheaper than VMWare) --
