Send email to bug-gnu-utils AT gnu DOT org (that's an email gateway into the 
news group I mentioned).

Then I'd suggest to upgrade to the latest version 2.9.5.1, available as 
v2gnu/bnu2951b.zip from the usual DJGPP sites, before reporting the 
problem.  It's quite possible that this bug (if it is a bug) is fixed 
there.  Version 2.8.1 is *very* old.
