Apparently that is precisely their intent: no more 16bit ANYthing if
they can help it, and no more DOS window/console apps. Considering that
a lot of the problems in current Windows stem from workarounds to keep
16bit support working, this is probably actually a good thing for
Windows' stability and performance (or would be if they'd recode it from
scratch), but a Bad Thing[tm] for those of us who still use/can't live
without our DOS and Win3.1 software.

BTW today I finally got around to putting DRDOS7.03 on a system, and
tested its DPMI with a couple DJGPP apps. Initial results were that they
liked it fine (no need for CWSDPMI) AND they ran 10% faster, by actual
timed test. Next will be testing our main app, which was slick in its
ancestral Watcom but has severe performance problems in DJGPP. :(
