I buy my computers in germany without any software. 
Why pay 1000 USD for a crappy WinSuck and a half dozend 
updates like Winword, Acces, Excel, ...

At my Computer-Shop I can coose between:
MS-Dos 6.22                             30 USD
WfW 3.11                                50 USD
Win95                                  250 USD
Win98                                  350 USD
Win NT 3.51                            300 USD
Win NT 4.0                             400 USD
Linux (Debian, Suse, RedHat, DLD)    20-60 USD (the expensive with book)
DR-Dos 7.03 with and wthout TCPIP,   20-30 USD
FreeDOS                                 20 USD (on CD wit 600 MB DOS-Programs)
....

I stay with my DR-Dos 7.03 and TCPIP and 
if I need Windows I have my DR-Dos 7.03/WfW 3.11

For the bigger things I have my Pinguins...
but without the X and...
