'cout' is an indication you have just slipped into C++. Seriously, if
you are not familiar with 'cout' you need to find a good book or online
tutorial introducing you to C++. It is not C, and plunging into stream
oriented i/o with the impression that it is a variant of printf() will
be very unrewarding.
