That's perfectly normal if you didn't install the FreeBE/AF driver for your card (check it on the main allegro site). Hardware acceleration is only provided though the FreeBE/AF interface. Also, I seem to have a problem: on my Matrox Mystique (4MB SGRAM), If I use the VESA 2.0 driver (by renaming vbeaf.drv) Allegro programs lockup or reset the computer when I exit them.
