Since, in this special case, it's the SAMS publishing company that is making money out of selling you that book, not the DJGPP developers (at least I don't remember having heard of any donations from SAMS, in this context), it's *them* that ought to have told you how to get the very basic things done with DJGPP, I'd say. If they didn't, I'd consider giving back the whole book and requesting a refund. That said, go to the CD (or you installation of DJGPP made from the CD), and look for the 'readme.1st' file. If it isn't there, complain to SAMS and ask them to send you this vital part of DJGPP.
