But once in a while I get strange behavior when compiling. E.g., just yesterday I tried to compile something when suddenly ld crashed with a gpf. At first I thought: I did it! My code must be so bad, it killed the linker. But it kept crashing, even when I just compiled "hello world". So I rebooted and everything was OK again, ld gave me a nice executable. I am wondering how something like this can happen. I am ready to admit that my hardware (no, my PC's hardware) is rather crappy and I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that one of my memory chips has some problem. But I cannot think of a way, in which a hardware problem could cause the behavior described above. Anybody got a hint? Manni
