It's the patch I wanted to send to the egcs team, only to find out that someone else had sent it in just 12 hours before me --- a strange coincidence, taking into account that the bug has been present ever since gcc-2.8.0 or so. To make use of gprof --line, the -a profiling has to be stored in a binary file, instead of the human-readable one usually generated by gcc.
