Please note that the DJGPP FAQ list (v2/faq211b.zip from the same place you get DJGPP) discusses in section 3.6 several alternative free tool-chains for Windows programming, including RSXNTDJ. So even if RSXNTDJ is not the best tool for you (I never used it, so I wouldn't know), there are other possibilities to consider before MSVC.
