The technically correct term is "Virtual Machine". DJGPP programs always get their own virtual machine (unless run directly by other DOS programs). Some people confuse "DOS box" as a synonym for "Virtual Machine" with "DOS box" as the name of the window where COMMAND.COM is sitting at its prompt, and I believe this is the source of the confusion expressed above. end of quote. I needed this. Thanks. Now, would you state if it is true that it is possible to run in DOS on a Windows 95 and above machine WITH NO INTERFERENCE OR INVOLVEMENT FROM Windows? I am about to put my DJGPP files on a Windows 95 machine.. It is a fact that with Windows 3++ you can only have a clean memory after bootup. Once you turn on Windows and back out of it memory is contaminated and there is nothing you can do about it except re-boot. Most of the time this is no problem, but with some sound and graphics DOS code it raises hell. Now, if you have to turn on a Windows95 machine INTO Windows95 (I am told you can only do it this way) and then go to DOS, isn't some of the memory still held by Windows95? I have my doubts that you can EVER have DOS with clean memory with Windows 95. If I am wrong, I will be so happy to hear it. Thanks for your expert info. Ralph
