Also, did you set any motherboard dipswitches to the new memory value?

Are you using 8 Mb SIMMs?  Some motherboards (such as the Micronics
in my Gateway2000 486) only accept 4 Mb and 16 Mb SIMMs.  You also
have to disable BIOS cacheing to recognise more than 16 Mb.
Some motherboards insist that you install memory in matched pairs
of SIMMs.
     If you don't have the motherboard manual then there are some
good websites with this info;
     eg. www.motherboards.org

PS: From what I understand Win'98 still isn't a (full) 32bit
Microsoft OS (and Win'95 definitely isn't) so I hope you are
not considering the horror that is NT(tm)  :-)
