Hi, my name is Johan Venter, i'm 13 years old and I live in Australia.
Despite my young age, I have quite a history with computers and
programming in general. During my 4th year of school (1994) my school
had a couple 286's and a Commodore 64 three-system.
Computers had always interested my as my father had introduced them
to me when I was 5 or 6. I actually had a 286 (although I can't remember any
other specs) in my room, which I played games on.

Anyway, there was this guy at school who made a game, we all though he
was brilliant. I later discovered the secret of his brilliance.
I never exactly used C64 BASIC (besides the load and run commands),
because at that stage, I was interested in nothing else but silly games.

Anyway, when I was 10, I discovered GW-BASIC, on my 386
(which was given to me by my dad when he bought a 486).
I thought GW-BASIC sucked. Then, later, I discovered Q-BASIC
and its commercial counterpart QuickBasic, and I loved them.
I had spent 2 or so years writing little qb progs, which were interlaced
with little bits of my own ASM code. I love ASM, it took a while to learn, but I
think it's great. I soon moved to Pascal for about 4 months, and now I program
in only c/c++ and asm. I'm still an itermediate c++ progger and almost an expert
in ASM.

The real point of this message, if you've read this far, was nopt only to introduce myself
to
this group, but also congratualate DJ Delorie on his awesome DJGPP package.

Also, I would like to thank Eli profoundly because his FAQ was invaluable to me when I
first
started using DJGPP.

Last but not least, congrats to Robert Hoehne for RHIDE, it is very good, even though I
don't use it very often, I find its functions extremely helpful.

I will do my best to contribute to this newsgroup in the future, and will appreciate
advice
from more advanced programmers than I.
